We contacted Jared Flood some weeks ago, asking him to become a retailer for his lovely yarns. But he wants to sell his yarn only at ten US-based flagship-yarnstores.

Hope he changes his mind one day – we keep trying to get this yarn – promised !

You can look forward to...

How it all began

Written by Marion on . Posted in Blog

April 2011; we were having a knit meeting in Berlin-Lichtenrade and enjoyed sitting in the sun for the first time this year. We haven´t met for a long time and as usual everybody brought their latest “yarn finds” along: Traded on Ravelry or brought along from far-away-countries – or ordered in onlineshops from abroad – really expensive because of shipping costs and duty. Like so many times before I asked my fellow-knitters “Why don´t we start an onlinestore ?” – and Steffi  suddenly said “Let´s do it!”

One week later I had the chance to visit the “H+H Cologne” Trade Fair – what an experience. I saw all the thousand Malabrigo colors at once, touched pure Buffalo-Yarn for the first time, met the owners of small hand-dyeing companies and saw real mink yarn.
I came back to Berlin with my bags full of sample skeins, shadecards and price lists – and totally convinced to start this adventure together with Steffi.

Juli 2011; On vacation in Florida – of course I have checked in advance where the nearest LYS are – and I have visited them all. I had the chance to touch (and buy) all the yarns I have only seen online on Ravelry before: Madelinetosh, Cascade, Aslantrends … all those fantastic linen yarns … none of them available in Germany.

How it continues

May 2010; A few months earlier in California: I’m on vacation with my husband. Like every other tourist we visited the hot spots but we also took the chance to visit some yarnshops. Even my husband enjoyed it to find a Yarnshop via navigation system and by the way getting the chance to see discover some lovely creative parts of a town we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. With free WLAN in McDonalds Restaurants and some Hotels I was able to present photos from my purchases to my friends at home via Ravelry and facebook .

And there were really some treasures I haven’t ever seen or even touched before. For example Helen’s Lace which I found at a wonderful shop in Santa Barbara. At home I’ve always dreamed to get some Helens Lace… Or Madelinetosh Prarie, bought at the other lovely Santa Barbara yarnshop. And finally in San Francisco I was in seventh (wooly) heaven, as you can see:

I brought along some treasures for Marion and since then we shared the love for this beautiful yarn and the secrets how to get some. We started sharing advices where or from whom we can get this yarn here in Germany or who can bring along some yarn from holidays or would like to trade something.
A few months later the idea of

was born during a knitmeeting at this terrace in Berlin-Lichtenrade.
